Leave Room for Parks

Every year, park score lists are published ranking the 100 largest U.S. cities, where parks are able to score between 0 and 100 points in four categories — access, acreage, investment, and amenities. While cities such as Minneapolis, St. Paul, and San Francisco have scores that are over 80/100, Los Angeles has comparatively low scores. Los Angeles scores a 45 in access, 55 in acreage, 62.5 in investment, and 27.5 in amenities, out of 100. Los Angeles’ 50 parks pale in comparison to Minneapolis’ 180 or San Francisco’s 220 parks. Kids in L.A. has a mission to keep parks clean, safe, and abundant, but we can’t do it alone. Here are 5 ways you can help us.

  1. keep a clean park

Keeping a whole park clean is no easy feat, but that doesn’t mean you can’t join in. Things as small as picking up a piece of trash can go a long way. Some parks offer volunteer cleanup days, or you can host your own volunteering event.
